Memorial Day Weekend Give Away

With this being the unofficial first weekend of summer please take a moment to remember the men and women who gave all for the freedom we have.

This weekend is always hard for me to get through. For those of you who don't know, a good friend of mine was KIA in 2002 by a suicide bomber. He was able to get his 13 men out. He died doing what he loved and what he believed in. He was in the Army's Special Forces, Green Beret, with 22 years of service.

So here is the give away part! Leave a comment here with what your Memorial Day weekend plans are, you have until 11:59pm on Monday. I will be giving away a Red, White and Blue pillow made by me. Last year was the Tattered Stars and Stripes pillow.

My plans are surviving the weekend. I need to reboil some jelly, it hasn't gelled. Bind and deliver 2 baby quilts. Whip up a batch of salsa. Oh and I have to work all weekend.

I am spending the weekend getting my house ready for my quilting buddies. I'm hosting a Paula Nadelstern class next week as my big birthday party! So this weekend I will be making beds, making lists and making food!

I too will remember many friends who were killed in Vietnam. Don't know if you knew--Manteca actually lost 13 during this war--one was said to be from Stockton, but actually graduated from Manteca High. I remember meeting the first one that was killed about 2 weeks before he left for Vietnam at the Bank of America. I will also remember my son and my mother. I spent the day at a quilt class, which was a lot of fun. Was supposed to have the grandkids tonight, but one got sick so mom and dad decided to stay home--it is their 11th wedding anniversary. Like I told them, it was all because two people fell in love. We were going to see Shrek 3 with them, maybe tomorrow if all are feeling well. Hopefully will get at least one bathroom painted this weekend. Would like to get the family room/kitchen area painted also, but Manuel and I cannot agree on a color. Got to get this done so he can put in our new floors in the living room, family room/kitchen and hallway, so I may be boxing stuff up. Thank you for letting me hold Daphne the other night and playing with Delaney. You have such beautiful children. Take care and by the way what kind of jelly was it that did not jel.

Started the weekend with Friday off from work. Dean and I went to see Sex in the City 2. Pretty good; however, insulting to Dubia (sp?). Saturday was laundry, shopping, etc. Sunday we smoked a tri tip and ribs. Had a friend come over to test a new recipe. Got a thumbs up and best ever. Monday we went out to breakfast. Dean is mowing the backyard and I'm finishing the laundry, planning the basket row, preping lunches for the week, and maybe sewing. Talked with Dad and he is doing MUCH better. What a wake up call for him. He is now a vegitarian until he gets his colesteral (sp) under control. He is normally a meat and potatoe kind of guy. Have a great day (at least what is left of it).
